Dunsley to Stourton

This is a circular walk of about 4 miles starting and ending at The Vine. Includes stretches of the Staffs & Worcs Canal, and The Worcestshire Wildlife Trust ”Chance Wood.

There is a short stretch of uphill walking and a short stretch along a main road. Parking is available in any of the three car parks in the village, and limited parking at Mill Lane at the public carpark at the bottom of The Holloway.

Starting Point:

  1. From Kinver Lock at The Vine, head up Dunsley Road in the direction of Dunsley Hall.
  2. After about 200 yards, cross the road to Gibraltar by the post box.
  3. Follow the path along Gibraltar and bear left following the marked footpath shortly before the end of the road
  4. Bear left at the top of the hill
  5. Follow Dunsley Drive until you re-join Dunsley Road
  6. Turn left and down the steps to cross Dunsley Road to Hampton Grove
  7. Take the bridleway at the bottom of Hampton Grove
  8. Cross the canal at Hyde Lock.
  9. Turn right and follow the canal tow path to Stourton Lock
  10. Leave the canal at Stourton and cross the main Bridgnorth Road
  11. Follow the main road to the footpath opposite Stourton Castle
  12. Follow the footpath across the fields and climb over  the style into the wood
  13. Follow the footpath towards the Hyde, but optionally bear Right into Chance Wood where a pets cemetry can be found
  14. Return to the original footpath and continue to the Hyde
  15. Optionally turn right to view the dovecoat
  16. Return and continue along the track to the canal
  17. Turn right and follow the canal to the starting point at Kinver Lock by The Vine
