Review - Kinver Tandoori

If there's one thing the village of Kinver has in abundance, it's places to eat. From pub food to top-quality a-la-carte, you will find something to your taste, but if you're after a good curry on a Saturday night, you have no less than three restaurants from which to choose.

For a hot Saturday in August, a group of us decided to try out the International Tandoori as this had been recommended many times. We weren't disappointed.

The restaurant has had a re-fit recently and it is has a contemporary design and clean looks that puts many others to shame. The lighting, decor and general ambiance make for a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

This is complimented by the staff who are courteous and ready to advise on dishes from the extensive menu.

Tandoori CelebrationsIt is obvious that the restaurant is well liked by both local residents (there were many in that night, being known by first names is always a sign of good relations) and visitors. Indeed, at a recent celebration of its 25th anniversary, many turned out to party with the staff.

As there were four of us, we wanted a starter that wouldn't fill but would just give us a taster. A platter for two was suggested but had extra added to make sure each got a share - at no extra cost. Having recently having to pay 80p for a slice of buttered bread in another establishment, this is the sort of service many other restaurants could learn from.

Our main meals arrived shortly after we'd finished off the starter and the quality was superb. We each had different meals so we could all try something different (you get used to this when you go for a meal with reviewers!) and nobody was disappointed.

Bring your own

As they have a 'bring your own booze' policy, it also means your meals are much cheaper. Alchohol is usually where restaurants make much of their profit, yet you can buy it yourself from a local store and save a fortune. The resulting bill amounted to only £10 each - incredible considering the amount of food we had ordered.

lll in all, a fantastic restaurant in a superb location. We'll be returning soon to try out the other restaurants in the village very soon.

The following organisations are helping us to get a Christmas tree in Kinver, thanks to all of them!
