There is a new place to eat, drink and be merry in Kinver – hiding under the guise of a familiar Dunsley landmark. The Vine, now under new management, is a real option if you are looking for a meal out, a bar snack, a drink with friends or some well earned refreshment after a walk along the canal.
You’ll find a friendly young management team in place, the bar with newly restaurant décor has also been refreshed (we understand there are plans for further improvements), with a relaxed, bistro feel and efficient service. The ambiance is warm, cosy and welcoming.
This is where you’ll find good food at a reasonable price. The menu has a range of starters and main courses, mostly priced at around £4.50 and £8/£9 respectively. We chose from staples like home made soup, pate, sausage and (delicious) mash, burger and supreme of chicken to more unusual options such as devilled kidneys, a (gigantic) ham hock and Thai green curry. This was followed by a selection of tasty puds. Another good option is the Table d’Hôte, where you can choose from a smaller selection of dishes at a fixed price - £10.50 for two courses. Best thing about the whole experience? The food was fresh – no micro waved offerings in evidence.
And the price? Our drinks before the meal, three courses and coffee, plus two bottles of house wine between four, worked out at £25 per head. If you went for just a main course and some drinks, you could eat here for under £15 each.
The management team has moved across from the Crown at Iverley and there is plenty of enthusiasm to make this venture equally successful. There are plans to enhance the Vine’s appeal, with a focus on outdoor dining by candlelight on the deck overlooking the canal – and summer BBQ’s and entertainment in the gardens.
Make sure you check out the Vine, if only for a drink. You can even take your dog into the pub, if you make sure you sit in the uncarpeted part of the bar!
The following organisations are helping us to get a Christmas tree in Kinver, thanks to all of them!
