Ancient Borough of Kinver information board

I receive lots of questions about Kinver History, so I reckon it deserves it's own forum!

Ancient Borough of Kinver information board

Postby Forrester » Sun May 18, 2014 11:57 am

Hi,

it is great to see the new board up on the "village square" but the information stands in need of a minor correction. The king who granted the charter at Stour-in Ismere, which contains the first reference to Kinver in history (736 AD) was not Ethelberht as stated but Aethelbald king of Mercia for forty-one years. A copy of the original charter is displayed in St Peter's church

Getting the thing correct far outweighs Not-Picking.

As for the lecture. I know quite a few people who'd be very interested indeed/. Why not ?

I think the lecture is scheduled for the September meeting of the historical society at the Senior Citizens' Club, Legion Drive Kinver. It is entitled, "The Lost Monastery of Ismere, the Staffordshire Hoard, and other Mercian Mysteries". A slightly abridged version is available online at West Midlands History (Online). Just enter "The Lost Monastery of Ismere..."
