Green Dragon Hotel

I receive lots of questions about Kinver History, so I reckon it deserves it's own forum!

Although I know that Green Dragon question had been posted by someone some time ago....In my family research study I also came across a link to this venue in as much as Joseph Smith was managing or owned the Green Dragon...would anyone have a clue as to the years he was there please ??? he somehow seemed to be linked to my ancestors in some way.

Well the The Green Dragon was The Green Dragon Hotel although it is now The Kinver Constitutional Club.
It was purchased in 1937 or 1938 from Julian Hanson & Sons Brewery of Dudley.
The club celebrates its 75th Birthday this year.

There is a record of impending Bankrupcy published here http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/ ... 4/page.pdf
of one William Henry Baker who I imagine was the owner of the premises at that time. It's probably safe to assume that Julia Hanson
& Sons purchased or acquired the property as a result of those proceedings.

Before going further it would be helpful to know your ancestors NAME and the DATES he was involved with the premises.
Julia Hanson & Sons was purchased by Banks's Brewery in 1943 and Bank's subsequently became Marstons Brewery.
I know that Marstons hold a considerable amount of historic data so it's possible that they might have some specific records
so try here http://www.marstonsbeercompany.co.uk/br ... ampton.asp.

Good luck!

Thank you once again Sniper....wonderful info from you again, it was my great aunt and uncle that owned Cafe Royal... and as she was left on her own after 1906 to run Cafe Royal until her passing in 1933....I believe that Joseph Smith was the proprietor of Green Dragon Hotel at sometime but not certain of dates etc. I doubt he was related to us but I will PM you to explain. I am so grateful for your constant superb input....Many Thanks again.

No problem at all.
Happened accross this site http://www.pubhistory.freeserve.co.uk/phs/ancestors.htm from which there are other links. I expect you'll have tried this one but you never know.
