The  Sheepwalks Shocker, Kinver Rotary Club’s annual multi terrain 10k run across the Enville estate is the latest event to be cancelled by the club.

The current coronavirus crisis has already resulted in the loss of the annual seniors’ party,  an evening of Irish folk band music, a murder mystery weekend and a barn dance. The annual ladies lunch has been postponed, as has the most important event in the club’s calendar, the Charter Night.

Club President David Goring says: “the 10k run was scheduled for Sunday, October the 4th and while we all hope the current troubles will be over by then, an event of this size takes a lot of organising and that planning should start now. Our inability to hold face to face meetings makes that planning impossible, so we have reluctantly decided to cancel this year’s race.

“We regret the main beneficiary of the event, Action Heart,  will not be receiving the proceeds of the 2020 10K but the club has currently taken cash from its charities fund to support three food banks serving the area in the current crisis and additionally members have begun monthly donation, in lieu of cash spent at missed club meetings,  to the Black Country Foodbank. Meanwhile, the club is currently distributing donations from the record 2019 Christmas sleigh collection to charities and needy causes in the area.  Cheques for amounts ranging from £100 to £400 are being posted to recipients who, it is hoped, will be up and running in a few weeks’ time, with the aid of additional funds provided through the generosity of the people of Kinver, Enville Wall Heath and Wollaston.
