Stourbridge schoolgirl Penelope Barstow has beaten youngsters from across the Midlands to take first place in the second round of a nationwide photography competition organised by the Rotary organisation.
Penelope had already beaten almost 50 pupils from her own school – St James’s Primary School in Wollaston – and others in the area to take top spot in the first round of the contest, organised by the Rotary Club of Kinver.
Her photograph of the fountains at Witley Court, the 17th century Worcestershire manor house that was devastated by fire in 1937, has now triumphed over winners from across Rotary District 1060 which takes in more than 50 clubs in Staffordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire and the West Midlands conurbation.
The photograph has gone forward to the national finals of the competition.
